World Youth Trials and USA Youth Champs - Day 2 Updates

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Updates from day one of the World Youth Track and Field Trials and the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

World Youth Track and Field Trials

Girls 3,000m
In a duel between Sarah Fakler and Megan Lacy for the 3,000m title, Fakler came out on top with her time of 9:54.48.

Girls' shot put
Torie Owers led the other competitors by three feet on her way to a win in the girls' shot put with a toss of 15.41m/49-6.25.

High jump
Consistency paid off for Morgan Taylor who won the girls' high jump. Both Taylor and the runner-up, Mimieux Land tied with a clearance of 1.70/5-7, but Morgan was awarded the title based on the number of missed attempts. Justin Fondren cleared the seven-foot mark to win the boy's high jump. On his second attempt at the height, Fondren successfully sailed over the bar set at 2.19m/7-00.5 to win the title.

Girls' pole vault
Top seed Sydndey White came out on top of the girls' pole vault competition, jumping 3.85m/12'7.5 for the victory.

100m/110m hurdles
Trinity Wilson followed up her personal best performance at USA Juniors with the World Youth Trials title in the 100m hurdles, running a time of 13.42. The boys' 110m hurdlers were led by Todd Gurley who won with a time of 13.88.

100m
Warren Marshall of Carolina Elite Track Club took home the title in the 100m with his time of 10.74. Myasia Jacobs ran to victory in the girls' 100m dash, clocking a time of 11.82.

1,500m
Jacob Burcham edged out Justin Brinkley by a second to win the final of the boys' 1,500m with a time of 3:58.34. On the girls' side, Hannah Meier won a close battle with Camille Chapus for the 1,500m victory in 4:24.92.

Multi-events
The Heat Track Club's Kendell Williams scored a personal best of 5225 to best the heptathlon field by 500 points and capture the win. In a rare finish to the boy's octathlon, Devon Williams of The Heat Track Club and George Wayda scored an identical 5,332 points. Williams was awarded the win by beating Wayda in five of the eight events.

400m
Last year's intermediate girls' 400m champ Robin Reynolds sped to victory in the event with her time of 52.84. Aldrich Bailey won the boys' competition, running a time of 46.57.

Discus
Ethan Cochran outdistanced the rest of the field by nearly 5 meters to win the boy's discus throw in a mark of 58.16m/190-10.

400m Hurdles
In a close finish of the top-three competitors, Nnenya Hailey of the First Light Track Club leaned at the finish to take the win in 58.69. Meanwhile, in the boys' race, Jonathan Russell of Northern Virginia Athletic Association finished nearly half a second ahead of runner-up Erin Jenkins to take the win in 52.48.

800m
In a thrilling finish to the girls 800m, Ajee Wilson narrowly edged out Amy Weissenbach to take the win in 2:09.39, only two-tenths of a second faster than Weissenbach. The boys' race was as equally dramatic, as Tre'tez Kinnaird finished first in 1:50.56 and Cameron Thornton of the Titans Track Club finished second in 1:50.99.

Javelin
Haley Croser continued her family's winning ways by opening with a five-meter improvement over the previous World Youth Trials record. She secured the win on her first attempt, with a toss of 51.09m/167-07.

Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Multi-events
Jaiden Woodbey of the California Rising Stars Track Club won the midget boys' pentathlon with his score of 2,248. In the midget girls' pentathlon. Long Beach Sprinters' Kalyah Williams led all midget girls' pentathlon competitors with a total of 2,161 points.
Shaina Burns of the Real Track and Field Club scored 3,874 points to top the rest of the field in the intermediate girls' heptathlon.
Ciana Baron was victorious in the young women's heptathlon, scoring 3,852 points.

4x800m
In the 4x800m competition, the Arizona Cheetahs Track Club won the midget girls' division, and Fasst Track and Field Club took the midget boys' category.
Jenks America Track Club was victorious for the youth girls, and So Cal Roadrunners  topped the youth boys'.
TexaStrong Running Club bested the intermediate girls' race, and Jenks America Track Club led the intermediate boys' teams.
Kansas Flyers Track Club was awarded the win for young women, and Jenks America Track Club won yet another race in the young men's division.
